With an overwhelming 112-87 triumph in Game 1 of the WCF, the Golden State Warriors took a 1-0 lead against the Dallas Mavericks.
They are currently 7-0 in playoffs at home and will seek to keep their perfect record going in Game 2.
Game 2 is scheduled to happen on Friday night.
The Warriors took the lead in the middle of the first quarter after a tough start and never trailed again. Curry came out firing after the half, leading a 10-0 run that put the game out of reach.
The assault continued in the second half, with the Warriors leading by as many as 30 points.
Curry led an assault that included seven players in double figures with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Luka Doncic led with 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in the loss.
The Mavericks had one of their worst offensive performances, shooting 36% from the floor and 11 of 48 from 3-point range.
The third quarter includes that the Warriors have returned.
This Warriors championship core had a history of games open in the third quarter during their peak. They’d make adjustments. Would increase the intensity, and convert tough games into blowouts before their opponents realized what was going on.
They demonstrated that they still have that magic in Game 1. While the Warriors led for the entirety of the first half, the Mavericks were only down nine points at halftime and were still in striking distance.
The Warriors were up by 18 points with 7:16 left in the third quarter, and the game was effectively over.Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, who struggled to find their offense in the first half, combined for 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting in the third quarter.
The Warriors’ highlight of the night came early in the fourth quarter when they went on a 10-0 run in less than two minutes. It’s a bad indication for the other side when Curry starts dancing.
The Mavericks lose their downtown edge.
The Mavericks’ offensive strategy is straightforward: use shooters to spread the field and play drive-and-kick basketball. Their 40.9 3-point attempts per game are more than any other team in the playoffs, and they live and die by the three. They perished in the first game.
In the first quarter, they were 3 of 19 from downtown, and it didn’t get much better from there, as they finished 11 of 48.
On a night when the Mavericks established a new team mark for 3-point attempts in the postseason, this was their least effective 3-point shooting game of the playoffs. That’s not a winning combo.
While the Mavericks missed a number of open looks, it appeared that they began to settle for 3s as the game progressed. While the shot is an important aspect of their attack, it isn’t ideal when it is the only one. The Mavericks only attempted six shots at the rim and scored 32 points in the paint.
