With a 44-12 victory against Queensland, New South Wales leveled the State of Origin series.
New Zealand’s Blues claimed a 14-12 lead in the first half before scoring five consecutive.
Tries in the second half to secure a series win for the first time since 2010.
Nathan Cleary, 24, of the Penrith Panthers, scored two tries.
And kicked a penalty goal for a 24-point haul while converting all seven of NSW’s scores.
Game two will be played in Brisbane on July 13 after Queensland won the first game 16-10.
Felise Kaufusi scored a try for Queensland and Valentine Holmes kicked the conversion to put them 6-2 lead after Cleary’s early penalty for the Blues.
Cameron Munster’s brilliant touchdown put the Maroons back in ahead at 8-6.
But Matt Burton’s try put NSW back in contention.
Kaufusi received a yellow card after a series of fouls just before halftime.
And Brian Too took advantage to give the Blues the lead.
Angus Crichton and Daniel Tupou added tries for NSW after the interval. Halfbacks Jarome Luai and Matt Cleary also scored twice for the Blues.
